In February, my friend Lori over at Velvet's Edge invited me on a last minute trip to San Francisco for Superbowl week and we had the best time.
In between the mad rush of work, events and fighting the tourist-filled streets of downtown, we managed to spend almost an entire day on the water. We took the morning ferry ride from Pier 33 over to Alcatraz Island and I was incredibly impressed with the tour. Every visitor receives their own headset on this walking tour. The narration is powerful and informational; I have never been so intrigued by an audio tour.
If you go on this tour, be sure to buy your $31 tickets ahead of time, show up early to Pier 33 because the line will be long, and wear walking shoes. I would plan on spending half a day between traveling there, the tour, and traveling back.
We spent the second half of the day in Sausalito. If you are staying in downtown San Francisco, skip the Uber ride and take a ferry from Pier 41. Get a front row seat for the famous barking sea lions while drinking a Corona with the wind in your face! This also gives the most amazing view of SF right before sunset. We ended the day with the best $36 crab roll I have ever had at Fish , a glass of wine on the water at Barrel House Tavern, and a drive through the Marine Headlands for an epic view of the Golden Gate Bridge.
